“Voting officially opened today for the NRPA Parks Build Community Grant award! Please help spread the word and get out the vote – the grant will provide us the funds we need to build the Outdoor Classroom at the Community Roots Demonstration Garden, and provide a permanent home for garden learning at Skinner Park. Three Chicago Park District finalists were selected for this opportunity, but  only one will win the award.” – Kristen Brock, Chicago Park District.

The Skinner Park Advisory Council have been in discussion with the Park District and the Park District is willing to having a true community garden as part of the project so that community residents can get a bed to grow their own veggies, etc.  There will be no fee for residents to get a bed but they have to commit to a certain number of volunteer hours to help with the garden and Skinner Park.   Any excess food grown in the demonstration part of the garden will be donated to a local food pantry in the West Loop.

Voting is allowed once per day, every day until April 30th – so tell everyone you know to vote early and often!    To vote – http://www.parksbuildcommunity.org/.
