Skinner Park ADA Improvements is a Semi-finalist for Community Works Grant!

We are happy to announce that SPAC’s submission for ADA improvements for Skinner Park and ADA accessible garden areas has been selected as a semifinalist for a Chicago Community Works Grant.

If selected as the finalist for the Central Area, the funding will be used to replace the flooding and/or buckling sidewalks around the park. Improve the both the Tranquil Garden and Community Roots Garden with accessible paths. Community Roots will also get accessible gardening beds so that seniors and people with disabilities can participate in gardening. A greenhouse to further education offerings of the Community Roots Demonstration Garden for all ages. And finally, ADA accessible bathrooms!

These improvements will help the many seniors and people with disabilities who live near Skinner Park be able to enjoy the park and provide a safer environment for everyone who uses Skinner Park or just the sidewalks around Skinner Park. There are 4 senior buildings with 700+ units located within 3 blocks of Skinner Park serving seniors and people with disabilities.

SPAC will present their vision at the Community Works virtual meeting on Nov 9 at 6pm along with the other two semi-finalist for the Central Region. Sign up here to attend the meeting and show your support.
